Ayres of Swinister, Shetland Islands
This small island is tied to Mainland of Shetland Islands by two Ayres (shingle bars) that enclose a Houb (lagoon). Cette petite île est reliée au continent des îles Shetland par deux Ayres (des bandes de galets et de sable) qui entourent un Houb (lagon).

HU439726, LR2 & LR3. HISTORY Pillar completed 25th September 1959. Computed as tertiary triangulation station HU46/T19 in 1961. Levelled for height also in 1961. Last maintained by the OS in May 1980. SITE VISIT Approached from east. Nearest safe parking by east side of road on bend to east at HU446729. Mapped track from road goes up to the comms masts which the trig is just beyond. Hill of Swinster. Open heather and grass top. Pillar in good condition. Spider retains OS centre cap with raised large wide letters. Flush bracket faces SSE, ~155°. Vented through SW sight hole. Any views obliterated by foul weather conditions at time of visit.
