Summit of Tom Buidhe
After a lot off-piste hiking with no paths and a steep climb to the summit I've finally made it to the stop of Tom Buidhe. The dark summit of Tolmount can be see over the cairn's left 'shoulder'. Time's pressing and it's time to move on though. Tom Buidhe (pronounced Towm Boo-ee-ya) and translates as 'The Yellow Hill', is my 20th Munro and stands at 957 meters (3139 feet). Tolmount bizarrely translates from Gaelic as 'Uncertain', but it is my 21st Munro, and stands at 958 meters (3143 feet). The day sees me covering 18 miles by bike & hike so what I AM certain of is, it's going to be epic and it's going to hurt.

Final Approach
After summiting Tom Buidhe, I've dropped down to the Glen between that and Tolmount. After a steep initial ascent, I have just this gentle rise to climb, with the rocky summit now in view in the distance. Almost there!! Finely Balanced
The wonderfully sulpted summit cairn of Tolmount, looking north towards Glen Callater. The top stones are so finely balanced, I was surprised they didn't blow off in the strong wind that's blowing! Glen Callater
We've made it, the summit of Tolmount. After stepping over the rounded summit, we gain a fantastic view of Glen Callater and Loch Callater in the distance, the far end of which today's adventure started. It's time to find some shelter from the strong winds and get some sandwiches!! Tom Buidhe (pronounced Towm Boo-ee-ya) and translates as 'The Yellow Hill', is my 20th Munro and stands at 957 meters (3139 feet). Lunch With A View
After finding a sheltered spot below the summit of Tolmount I stop for a bite of lunch, very posh sandwiches of pate and cucumber I might add. This is the view from my spot looking down a grassy Glen across the Scottish Highlands. Tough Terrain
Leaving the summit of Tolmount I once again lose the paths, and have to navigate across this marshy and boggy terrain (fortunately fairly dry after little rain). It's going to tak over an hour to regain the bike and I'm already tired ... *deep breath Tom Buidhe (pronounced Towm Boo-ee-ya) and translates as 'The Yellow Hill', is my 20th Munro and stands at 957 meters (3139 feet). Upland Plains
Leaving the bike far behind on the track, I've to strike out across unpathed marshy grasslands. I've been going over 30 minutes now since leaving the bike, but as I top a rise Tom Buidhe (on the right) and Tolmount (on the left) hove into view. We've still got over a mile before we reach the first summit so it's time to move. Tom Buidhe (pronounced Towm Boo-ee-ya) and translates as 'The Yellow Hill', is my 20th Munro and stands at 957 meters (3139 feet). Upland Lochan I
As I'm traversing the grasslands to regain the bike on my return from Tom Buidhe & Tolmount, I come across this beautiful lochan (small loch or pond), looking tranquil in the high Scottish Highlands. Tolmount summit
Looking SE from Tolmount in the Cairngorms. The view follows the course of the White Water as it flows off The Mounth and towards the V of Glen Doll in the centre-distance. I assume Dreish and Mayar are the high points on the skyline (centre and right). This is the area of the 1959 tragedy where 5 hikers perished in a storm on New Years Day.
