Dubh Loch And The Mountains
Finally reaching the far end of Dubh Loch the ice once again thickens, easily taking my weight with no creaks or cracks. Rocks embedded in the ice are dotted around while the steep mountains flank us on all sides.

Lunch On Ice
Walking on the thick ice at the far end of Dubh Loch in the Scottish Highlands I sat on this rock to have my lunch (if you look carefully you can see the hole in the snow formed by my coffee fill thermos cup). I had a lovely view along the length of the Loch and with no wind, and no people, it was pure silence except for the gentle burbling of the water beneath the ice. Amusingly, I'd placed my metal lunch box on the ice while I was eating, but by the time I'd finished it had stuck itself to the ice, and I had to be fairly firm to extricate it. I seriously though I'd have to return in the spring to fish it out of the Loch!!

Mountains of Ice
Not all the ice at the far end of Dubh Loch was solid, parts of it, where exposed to the winds, wasn't frozen at all. But we do get great reflections of the high mountains surrounding the loch reflected its still waters.
