S6889 - Fasheilach
NO342857, LR44. HISTORY Pillar completed 17th August 1952, cost not on record. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ40/1 within the Ballater secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1956. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary block NO46 (Forfar) during 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1974. SITE VISIT Tracks are as shown on the maps. There are no paths to the trig column. It is necessary to continuously climb in and out four foot deep peat troughs for the last half mile. Not one for the feint hearted or on a foggy day. The pillar is in very good condition, but spider has lost its OSTS plug leaving the pillar centre open to the elements. Northerly facing flush bracket. All four sight holes are open. Views to Lochnagar and Mount Keen.
