Castle from the Cafe - Rosthwaite - Borrowdale
In the tiny village of Rosthwaite, much beloved by Charles the third of that name, is a tiny tea room called the Flock In. If the weather allows I suggest sitting outside in the small walled garden from where I took this. The food is simple and very good, as is the coffee. The views are memorable.

Borrowdale from King's How.
Looking down on the confluence of the River Derwent and Stonethwaite Beck known as The Crook at the meeting point. The large wood above the river is Johnny Wood an ancient piece of temperate rainforest. Down to the right are the Jaws of Borrowdale.

Rosthwaite from Castle Crag.
Nearing the top of Castle Crag the path winds through the spoil from the old slate quarries. Just below the plume of smoke from Rosthwaite is the café that was mentioned in a previous picture, the Flock In. Just beyond this ancient lake bed Borrowdale splits into two valleys. Straight ahead is Langstrath dominated by the steep cliffs of Eagle Crag. To the right the road leads to Honister Pass and Buttermere.
