The male of the species has a brightly coloured orange breast, and from a distance can be mistaken as a Robin as it bobs in a very similar fashion. I photographed this guy along the wooded banks of Whelpo Beck in the northern Lake District, where it was feeding some chicks in a nearby barn. I returned many times, and in the end it seemed to become quite familiar with my company as I could get in very close proximity without attempting to hide. Unfortunately, this species is now included on the Amber List with unfavourable conservation status in Europe where it is declining.
