A view captured from the window a railway carriage as the train made its way towards Llanfair Caereinion. Note the cattle beyond the hedge and the dozens of rooks and or jackdaws in the nearest field.

From A Railway Carriage
The Earl is running bunker first around Cwm Curves, near Sylfaen. In the left distance are the buildings of Middle Sylfaen farm. The picture was taken from the from the front balcony of a former Zillertalbahn carriage (B27). This train was the 08:45 empty stock working from Llanfair Caereinion to Welshpool. The was children's themed event at Welshpool over the weekend and, apart from the guard, the only passengers were the second loco crew.

Steam locomotive No. 822 'The Earl' hauls a GWR mixed train towards the the summit of Golfa bank on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway.
With a nice clean exhaust but using every ounce of its tractive effort, steam locomotive No. 822 'The Earl' built by Beyer Peacock at Gorton, Manchester during 1902 hauls the replica Pilkington coaches an open wagon and brake van up towards the summit of the 1 in 29 Golfa bank with the 13:15pm departure from Welshpool Raven Square, on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, Cymry/Wales. © Anthony Haynes - All rights reserved, please do not use this image without my explicit permission.

Friday Engineers
Civil engineers train on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway on St David's Day, approaching Cwm Lane, halway between Llanfair and Welshpool. Friday 1.3.24. Baguley at Burton-on-Trent in 1949 to the order of the Drewry Car Company and is now fitted with a Gardner engine developing 150 h.p. Originally it worked on the Admiralty’s Upnor and Lodge Hill Railway then later transferred to Broughton Moor, Cumbria. Capable of working passenger trains in an emergency, the locomotive is normally used for the heavier civil engineering works trains.
