OS Map of Caisteal Abhail

Granite Highlands, Isle of Arran
An iPhone photo, taken on the descent from the summit of Caisteal Abhail. The top of the mountain had been enveloped in low cloud and mist, but on our descent it finally cleared to reveal this view towards Goat Fell, Cìr Mhòr, A' Chìr & Beinn Tarsuinn.

not today thanks
The A'Chir Ridge isn't the mountain of choice today. Maybe next time.

Cross that one off
Finally after 3 years of failed attempts, the summit of Cir Mhor is conquered, twice in 3 days. After summiting alone in thick cloud, I returned with my father for the second go. Having previously summited himself years ago in bad weather, I think both of us were overjoyed to see the view around us for the first time. Totally worthwhile. We will return.

Ok what's next?
One of the great things about the Arran mountains if that you have element of choice. Most people want Goatfell, it's the highest and as it's at the front it's the most accessible. But there's so many other choices, so many other routes. There's something for everyone and even repeating routes never gets boring due to the weather conditions. A very special place indeed.

Amazing mountain on the Isle of Arran with incredible rock formations on the very top and one of the best views in Scotland.
I had the most amazing walk in Arran's hills, starting from North Glen Sannox and up to Caisteal Abhail. Amazing Day!
