Xanthandrus comtus (f) Syrphidae
UK Status Although relatively frequent in older collections, this species underwent a period of decline and came to be regarded as a great rarity. It has evidently recovered, as there are numerous recent records at widely scattered localities throughout the southern half of Britain, and it has recently been found in Scotland (Rotheray, 1992). Records remain very erratic, however, and there are few sites where it occurs regularly. This could possibly indicate that this species is a migrant. [NatureSpot]

This is a small greyish weevil about 3 mm in length, with a cream coloured blotch at the centre join of the elytra, often extending faintly onto the rear of the head. Small patches of pale scales are also spread over the elytra. [NatureSpot] Taken hand held with a Samsung 100mm f/2.8 Macro Schneider D-XENON Lense on a Pentax K-1 Mark II
