The Hermaness National Nature Reserve

"Hermaness is renowned for its internationally important seabird colonies, including the world's third largest great skua colony, fulmars, gannets, shags, puffins and guillemots." (Wikipedia) At the time of our visit, we saw the errant Black-browed albatross ( Thalassarche melanophris ) who had joined the gannet colony - he was somewhere on this cliff! Wikipedia again: "Hermaness was also home to a black-browed albatross – an extreme rarity in the Northern Hemisphere – every summer from 1972 until 1995 (except 1988 and 1989). Out Stack, Muckle Flugga and Northern Gannets

Out Stack is the northernmost point of Shetland, of Scotland and therefore also of Great Britain; there is no land in a direct line between it and the north pole. Also in this photo. are lots of Northern gannets Morus bassanus , a few of the most northerly sheep in the UK, and the lighthouse of Muckle Flugga.
