Tarbet Isle, Loch Lomond. One of the smallest of over 30 islands that are scattered across this iconic loch.
Commentary. The largest of Scottish lochs, the iconic Loch Lomond, near the village of Tarbet. Tarbet Isle is one of over thirty small and large islands that pepper the southern reaches of this pristine lake. From a broad, undulating plain, south of the Highland fault the loch narrows and deepens to a convoluted channel that snakes through a plethora of imposing, beautiful and imperial peaks- including Lomond, Narnain, Vorlich and Beinn a Choin to end abruptly at Ardlui, where the waters of Glen Falloch tumble into this Queen of Scottish lochs. Its size, and nearly two-hundred-mile shoreline, dissipates its popularity so that many eastern bays are secluded and serene in all but the high season. An early, but unmissable, introduction to the Highlands!
