The glory, colour and beauty of Autumn at sunset. Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin in Glen Affric, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Commentary. What is so special about this glen, Glen Affric? The burnished bracken in an Autumn sunset. The proud Scots Pine that dominates slopes and islands for thirty miles. The glistening waters of Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin and Loch Affric. The fantasy, fresh-water islands that wind their snake-like path down the centre of Mheadhoin’s dammed water-scape. The beige to purple, leafless, Silver Birch that break up the forests of bottle-green. The gentle hills of the south-east shores. The mighty snow-lined Munros, beyond, to the north-west. The mating calls of the Red Deer Stags. The hollow, evening call of the Woodcock. The dart of a Red Squirrel and chasing predator, the Pine Marten. The high-pitch scream of a Golden Eagle and its graceful, gliding, sweeping flight. The aroma of Pine-Resin or Bog-Myrtle. The pure air sign of Lichens hanging from branches. Yes, all of this. But its magic is greater than the sum of its parts. That magic I cannot describe. Go there. Feel it. It is Glen Affric.

Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin, deep in Autumn, with its Caledonian Forest, mercurial fresh-water islands and burnished golden ferns, Glen Affric, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Poem. Silver birch, golden ferns, Spruce, Scots Pine, fairy-tale islands, hills, mountains and blue-tinged, twisting and turning lochs. A glen of alluring aromas. The fragrance of juniper or bog-myrtle, The fresh, invigorating resin of pine. The pure, jewel-like perfection of untouched morning dew. Osprey, golden eagle, red deer, wild cat, red squirrel, salmon, trout, wild otters and darting, scurrying pine-martens. The ghost-like woodcock in long shadows under an autumn moon. So much to see, so much to savour. Glen Affric National Nature Reserve is monumental in its status. The glen of countless colours. The glen of a thousand whispers.

The vibrant colours of Loch Beinn a Mheadhoin, Glen Affric, in an Autumn sunset, Inverness-shire, Scotland.
Poem. Oh, valley of valleys. This wondrous place. Why will you never leave my mind’s-eye? Because you are so beautiful, so, so special. This sanctuary for wildlife-red stag, wildcat and golden eagle. This mystical land of hillside, waterfall, rock and flood. This proud land of high peaks, proud trees and sweeping slopes. This embroidered, colourful tapestry of a land with hardy heather, juniper, wild rose, rowan and bog-myrtle. This beautiful land of jewelled lochs, rivers, salmon and trout. This pure land of clean air, lilting breeze and bird-song. You are so special, you are Holy, spiritual. You lift my eyes, my heart, my hope and my spirit. Others must share you, as you are, a million years from now!!!
