Gleann an Dubh-Lochain, Knoydart
View from the Mam Barrisdale path, looking back down the Gleann an Dubh-Lochain to the Loch an Dubh-lochain, where I'd camped the previous night. The path follows a steady gradient along the right-hand side of the glen. Saturday May 28, 1988. A digital copy of a 35mm Kodachrome 64 film transparency. Nikon FM, 35 - 70mm f3.3 - f4.5 Nikkor F-series lens. My diary for the day records: 'Despite weight of pack the climb up to Mam Barrisdale went well, reached top in just over an hour. Superb scenery, north slopes and valleys of Meall Buidhe very grand. Met several people on way down to Barrisdale, a dozen-plus tents at Barrisdale. Cloud increasing. Arrived at 10.45, pitched camp, early lunch, dozed a bit. Went for a walk along track to look at bay. Tide coming in over wide shallow sand, beautiful shell beach. Swam, sunbathed and swam again. 20+ tents by late afternoon, disappointing in such a wild, remote setting. Heavy cloud and showers late afternon.'
