Bluebells in spring (IR Chrome) DSC_1527
An image from a lovely walk in Ardgartan, Argyll, Scotland, where the bracken was just starting to overtake the last of the bluebells in the woods. This special effect from infrared light has been used in various sci-fi and fantasy films, notably in the Star Wars Ashoka TV series for the planet Seatos. Taken with a full-spectrum converted Nikon D80, a Nikon converted Helios 44M (58mm f/2, shot at f/8) and a Chinese copy of the Kolari IR Chrome filter. This filter lets through a blue bias to visible light and a measured amount of infrared light to balance out the colour. This is pretty much how it looked straight out of camera, but in post processing, I've boosted the colour saturation (and intensity of golden yellow) and then used Topaz Photo AI 3 to clean up the image, as the D80 is now a very old camera.
