11088 - Findlays Seat
NJ258549, LR28. HISTORY Build date and cost not or record. Computed as primary triangulation station PP340 within Figure 3 of the OSGB36 retriangulation network during 1937. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary blocks NJ45 (Elgin) in 1953, and NJ06 (Nairn) during 1956. Levelled to second class precision in 1953, concurrent with the reconnaissance of neighbouring secondary block NJ45. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1987. SITE VISIT This location is shown on the map as Brown Muir but the OS have officially named it Findlays Seat. Square untapered pillar. One of ten such pillars built without flush brackets in 1936 for the measurement of the Lossiemouth Base. This was originally established as a base in 1909. It was measured again using the then new squat untapered pillars in 1938 under the direction of Major Hotine. Findlays Seat is part of the extension to the base (see 11093). The NW facing flush bracket was added in 1963.
