S8830 - Maol Meadhonach
NN245146, LR56. HISTORY Pillar completed 22nd July 1956 costing £56.7s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NS29/T68 within the Greenock secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1957. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1980. SITE VISIT Followed the mapped track up to NN251135, then continued north up Maol an t-Sratha. The trig column is visible 1km to NNW. There is no direct route. There are numerous deep lochans separating the bealachs to divert around. Good visibility is essential to devise a route. The pillar is in good condition with moss coverage at low level. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with raised narrow large weathered lettering. The flush bracket faces south, compass measurement 189°. The left and right sight holes are open, the innards are clogged with moss and debris.
