Short Rise
We have been climbing gently for a while now and as we reach the edge of the final shoulder, we have this final rise before reaching the vast Cairn Gorm plateau. We shall then follow the cliffs (coire's) to reach the summit Cairn Gorm itself. Cairn Gorm, the mountain from which the Cairngorm mountain range gets its name, stands at 1245 meters (4085 feet) and is my 4th Munro of the season, my 27th in total. The hike (no bike this time) sees me covering a circuit of just over 7 miles and making an elevation gain of around 762 meters (2500 feet).

Stepping Stones
Dropping off the small shoulder before making the ascent up to the top of the coire we have to cross a very marshy area of upland. Fortunately these stepping stones aided our crossing so we didn't have to get our feet wet.
