Trig Point on Winter Hill
Trig Point on Winter Hill

Standing at an elevation of 1,496 ft above sea level, Winter Hill is prominent for the amount of furniture attached to the summit. Besides the superbly preserved triangulation column, there are several masts and ancilliary buildings including a huge TV Mast that serves most of North West England. There are also towers for mobile phones, professional radio users, and emergency services. Otherwise the summit is a boggy windswept plateau, with patches of exposed peat.

A memorial plaque on the side of a Winter Hill Transmitter building. The wreath indicated that the anniversary of the disaster had been a few days earlier - six in fact.
