Lattimore Coaches LAT662 ex-VTT14X
VTT14X was a DAF MB200DKTL / Plaxton Supreme VI C51F purchased new by Garrett of Newton Abbot in February 1981. It passed to Lattimore of Markyate in December 1988 and is seen here at Whipsnade Zoo soon after that. It later passed to WHM of Hutton and subsequently Border Travel of Galashiels, being taken over by Lowland in April 1992. The vehicle was also later registered FFS 10X. Scanned from an acquired negative.

London Country UPB310S
Seen here at Whipsnade Zoo on 15th July 1979 awaiting it's departure time on a late afternoon Service 313 journey through to Enfield is Leyland National UPB 310S, SNB 310 of London Country's St Albans Garage. New to SA in November 1977, it later worked at Reigate from March 1984 and subsequently Addlestone, being converted to a National Greenway and acquiring the registration PDZ 6261. It later worked for Londonlinks, subsequently passing to Kentish Bus and being taken over by Arriva. Transfer to Teeside and later Fox Country followed, with acquisition by A-Line Coaches of Bedworth in the early 2000's - the vehicle worked with them until scrapping in 2008. It should be noted that this is a good wider view of the substantial wooden waiting shelters that existed at Whipsnade Zoo at this time, reflecting the large number of people who had arrived by bus and coach in the 1950's and 60's, with many Green Line and other local routes being extended to the Zoo at weekends and during school holidays. The shelters were removed in the mid-1980's, with this area now in use as disabled parking. Scanned from an acquired negative.

Luton Corporation UNM149
Metro Cammell bodied Leyland PD2 UNM 149 was one of a number of similar vehicles acquired by Luton Corporation in the second half of the 1950's and gave good service to the undertaking, passing along with a number of it's stablemates to United Counties in January 1970. It is seen here standing at Whipsnade Zoo, having completed a journey from Luton via Dunstable on Service 53B, which was the furthest reach of Luton Corporation services for many years. The large wooden waiting shelters at this location reflected the numbers of people that used coaches and buses to get to the zoo in the post war period, but by the 1980's they saw much less use and were demolished, the area now forming part of the disabled car park. Scanned from an acquired print.
