Slopes of Ben Avon
After a short rest to take in the stunning views (and to get my breath back), I'm faced with the next challenge which is to climb these steep slopes to reach the summit plateau of Ben Avon. The path goes pretty much straight up, this is not going to be easy. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. They are my 2nd & 3rd Munro's of the season, and bring me to a total of 26 now.

On The Slopes of Ben Avon
About a third of the way up the steep slopes of Ben Avon, I look back down and across the cut to the steep slope opposite that I will have to climb later if I want to reach Beinn a'Bhuird. It looks almost vertical, and the path doesn't zig-zag, it just goes straight up. But for now, I'm concentrating on the climb up Ben Avon. Have Glen Will Travel
As I climb higher up on to Ben Avon, I get a good view back down the Glen I ascended after leaving the bike to reach the lower slopes of the mountain. It looks so gentle and unassuming from this angle, but it certainly didn't feel so when climbing up it. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. Traversing The Glens
Higher still on the slopes of Ben Avon in the Cairngorm mountains there is a fantastic view back. I have ascended from the Glen on the left to reach this ridge, known as The Sneck, which forms the T-Junction of my route, and runs between Ben Avon (which I am on now) and Beinn a'Bhuird which is currently lost over the peak of Cnap a'Chleirich. I will have to return to The Sneck once I've gained Ben Avon, traversing it and climbing Cnap a'Chleirich, and then on to Beinn 'Bhuird. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. Summit in Sight
At last I gain the summit plateau of Ben Avon across and the rocky tor marking its peak is within sight. I'll have to climb on top to claim the bag but fortunately my legs still seem up the task. Selfie on Ben Avon
I always like to get a summit selfie as I bag each Munro, so this is me sitting on the rocky tor that marks the summit of Ben Avon. It's a beautiful day and I am really enjoying life. View From Ben Avon
Sitting atop the rocky tor marking the summit of Ben Avon I have a fine view back over the summit plateau I've crossed to reach it. In the distance, barely visible, is the tiny summit cairn of Beinn a'Bhuird, which to reach I'll have to drop back into The Sneck, climb Cnap a'Chleirich, then cross the broad plateau. But first, I'm going to refuel and have my sandwiches. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. Panoramic of The Rocky Tors
The summit plateau of Ben Avon is dotted all over with these rocky tors. These outcrops pop up all over and can be seen clearly from the large tor that marks its summit on which I'm sat. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. Back To The Sneck
After descending from the rocky summit of Ben Avon I once more return to The Sneck, the little ridge below, running between the 2 Glens. My route takes me directly across The Sneck and up to Cnap a'Chleirich, beyond which, is the barely visible summit cairn of Beinn a'Bhuird, my second (and final) Munro of the day. Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles. Crossing The Sneck
As I make my way back over the Sneck to reach my second Munro of the day, Beinn a'Bhuird, I look to my right into the deep Glen Sluichd, with the steeps slopes of Ben Avon from which I have just descended on its right. But there's no time to linger, there's another Munro to go yet! Climbing Ben Avon (pronounced Ben A'an) which stands at 1171 meters (3842 feet), and Beinn a'Bhuird (pronounced Ben a-voashed) standing at 1197 meters (3927 feet), sees me covering a distance of just over 24 miles.
