S7385 - Monylaws Hill
NT872347, LR74. HISTORY Pillar completed 28th February 1953 costing £19.1s.0d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NT72/23 within the Jedburgh secondary block during 1957, and levelled to second class precision in 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in September 1978. SITE VISIT Approached from the east. Parked on NW verge opposite the unmapped track at NT885346. Walked 150m SW along the road, turning NW onto track for 400m and west along the south sides of the field boundary lines for a distance of 900m to the top. Grazing top. The trig column stands on the SE side of the boundary wall. The pillar is in fair condition, some horizontal surface cracks are getting deeper. The spider retains original the OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces southeast, compass measurement 149°. Vented through the back sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view.
