S7143 - Cocklaw Hill

NT721717, LR67. HISTORY Pillar completed 1st August 1952 costing £14.7s.6d. Computed as tertiary triangulation station NT86/T5 within the Berwick secondary block during 1953. Flush bracket S7143 was never levelled for height. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in August 1989. SITE VISIT Found easy parking in the valley to west at NT708714. Keeping north of Cauld Burn, headed NE to the junction of fences then ENE along field edges to westmost corner of the trig plot. Final beeline across open the grazing top to trig which is approx 360m NNE of the true summit. The stone built pillar is in good condition. Spider retains original OS cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces WSW, compass measurement 239°. Vented through sight hole on FB face. 270° view spanning from WNW though north and east to SSW.
