S9830 - Black Law
NT308420, LR73. HISTORY Pillar completed 8th August 1958 costing £54.7s.3d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NT33/2 within the Peebles secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1959. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1970. SITE VISIT Overall approach from the east. Parked on the verge by the west side of the B709 just north of the entrance to Leithen Lodge at NT328423. Followed the track west to the first footbridge then straight up Woodhopebank which continues onto Black Law. Heather clad top. The pillar is in good condition. The spider centre is open. The flush bracket faces NNE, compass measurement 25°. Vented through the front (NE) and back (SW) sight holes. The innards are blocked with debris. Full 360° panoramic view to the surrounding and distant hills. Day 262 - Glentress Forest
A fabulous ride in www.glentressforest.com/" rel="nofollow Glentress Forest with Andy and Chris who I met in Luchon in August. We did parts of the www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLaTqoq9Qus" rel="nofollow black route , the red route and the blue route. The only reason I didn't return black, red and blue is entirely due to their great guiding skills on trails they know really well. ( They're part of the team that build and maintain them there) Thanks for a great day guys! PS: I am shorter than both of them but I slipped back down the bank as the timer was running. Honest..
