NJ037222, LR36. HISTORY Pillar completed 9th June 1953 costing £22.3s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ06/16 within the Nairn secondary block during 1956. Flush bracket S7518 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in August 1957. This station was later used for the reconnaissance of secondary block NH90 (Cairn Gorms) during 1960. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in July 1976. SITE VISIT Approached from the west. Parked in a widened entrance at NJ007220. Followed the mapped tracks to NJ028219 then made beeline for the top via a firebreak. The footpath through the woods to Cromwells Hill is sponsored by the Nethybridge Hotel. The heather clad top is in well spaced pine trees. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces west, compass reading 282°. Vented through the left (north) sight hole.
