Carragh an Tairbeirt, Isle of Gigha, Kintyre c.1990.

This stone stands about six feet high and is known as the hanging stone. Not exactly tall enough one would think for executions, so perhaps the term 'hanging' is akin to leaning over. It probably is a marker for some religious spot venerated by the locals long ago, but I fancy it's simply a rubbing stone set up for cattle! Note my bicycle, an old sit up and beg model dating from pre WWII. I used it all the time I lived in Arran for both giving the dogs a run and myself. It proved very useful for touring, carrying the tent, rucksack and provisions comfortably.
