Spring Colours at Loyal
Our intention was always to finish the day shooting Ben Loyal. The wind had been an issue all day so I expected to find Lochan Hakel too choppy for reflections and had intended trying a hillside rather than lochside viewpoint. Somewhat fortuitously I couldn't find an obvious place to park for the hillside view and ended up at the small pull-in for Lochan Hakel anyway. Though 90% of the loch was rippled by the breeze, we found a small inlet I had not used before with some relatively calm water and, more importantly, some pretty reeds catching the light.

Moonrise at Loyal
Another view of Ben Loyal from last week. We managed to walk from our lochside location at Hakel to the hillside we had intended to visit firstly. There were not only some decent clouds above the mountain but also the first signs of the moon.

Loyal Wait
This was the end of day one of a two day trip up to Sutherland with Iain. We expected very little from the day based on the forecast, even not deciding where we were heading until the night before. Thankfully though, after heavy, persistent rain through the morning, the weather started to play ball and although remaining very changeable, did offer rare stunning moments like this at Lochan Hakel, looking towards Ben Loyal just before sunset.

Ring of Fire
A swing of the camera from SE to SW brought another iconic mountain into view, Ben Hope. Though both it and Ben Loyal would not pick up much of the sunset colour, there was a brief burst of fiery light on the lower clouds as the sun set, nicely reflected in the calm water of Lochan Hakel.

The other photos have been geo-tagged as on or around the summit. For less busy mountains, it can be a little hit and miss.

Kaleidoscopic Panorama
I liked the kaleidoscopic shapes and colours in this image, taken just 7 minutes after 'Ring of Fire.' To capture the whole vista I stitched 7 vertical images of Ben Hope and surrounding hills, reflecting in a flat-calm Lochan Hakel.
