Looking south over the villages of Auchtertyre and Nostie to a stunning sunrise silhouetting the graceful "Five Sisters of Kintail," Wester Ross, Scotland.

Poem. Rippling slopes sweep and surge, twist and curve, rise and fall, climb and plunge in a roller-coaster course, layer, upon discernible, layer. Silhouetted against a hazy, golden sky the looping, ridges, arêtes and graceful peaks loom starkly in a fiery September sunrise. The glorious Western Highlands are epitomised here. Mountain meets sea in the form of delectable sea-lochs that creep inland like watery roots for fifteen to fifty miles. Like hairy etchings, the ragged edge of pine-forested slopes break the smooth lines up to 400 metres. Nostie village is tucked, cosily, into a sheltered valley beside Loch Alsh, near the main arterial road, linking Kyle of Lochalsh with Inverness via Glens Shiel, Moriston and Mor. Night will soon eclipse the image of this burnished scene, but not our memories of it.

The magnificent slopes of the "Five Sisters of Kintail" melt into an evening haze, Wester Ross, Scotland.

Poem. Surreal, unreal – from black to milky white, Layered inclines of multi-grey hues dive, fall, curve down gracefully to the twisting arms of the sea and up to the elegant peaks. An evening mist descends out of a clear blue day. Sky and slopes take on a dream-like, cardboard-cut-out image. Subtle silhouettes that descend and rise in an endless swathe of hills and glens. A monochrome magic, that all too soon, is lost in darkness. But for that jot in time, we are held, mesmerised and speechless. Is this world heaven? Is the treasure already beneath our feet?
