Stromeferry
looking south from the north terminus of the ferry. Note the pier on the other side dating from the time that Stromeferry was the end of the railway (from 1875). The pier was demolished in the early 1930s having long been redundant by the railway being extended to Kyle of Lochalsh in 1897. Card posted in 1932. Sunset over Loch Carron from the Viewpoint above Stromeferry, Wester Ross.
Commentary. Heading for Plockton, above the former Strome Ferry, this view east, down Loch Carron, is enhanced as the sun breaks through the cloud cover. The ubiquitous, magenta pink, rosebay willowherb mingles with the pine, birch and fern and contrasts superbly with the foliage, loch and sky. On the northern shore, but south-facing, is the charming and sheltered village of Lochcarron. (top left) The views west to Skye, north to Torridon and east to Attadale and West Monar Forests are numerous and magnificent. I vaguely remember the old ferry in the 1960’s, but any mention of a bridge, to save some fuel, might have the provocateur pilloried. The whole point of there being sea-lochs is that we circumnavigate them, and take in the awe-inspiring scenery as we do so!?
