S9797 - Druim Na H-Achlaise
NH134033, LR34. HISTORY Pillar completed 9th June 1958, cost not on record. Computed as tertiary triangulation station with secondary label NH40/20 within the Loch Ness secondary block during 1959. Flush bracket S9797 was levelled for height to first class precision, tertiary standards in May 1959. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1980. SITE VISIT Overall approach from the southeast. Safe parking on the south side of the unclassified road at NH152009. Followed 'the road to the isles' to NH155037, then over a gate and followed the mapped path westwards to the trig column. Rough deer grazing land. The Vanessa is in good condition. The spider centre is open. The flush bracket faces eastwards, compass reading 95°. Three sight holes are open, the front port is plugged. The 360° panorama was llost to low cloud on the day of this visit.
