B29 Crash Site
The American B29 is believed to have crashed due to icing on the wings, causing the aircraft to clip a nearby peak before meeting its fate here in 1949. The aircraft burst into flames on impact and unfortunately all 20 crew lost their lives. The energy of the impact most have been incredible, it was scary to see how damaged some pieces of the aircraft became, crumpled up like a bit of paper. While other sections were amazingly intact. A memorial cairn has been erected to commemorate those that died. The site has been visited by a number of relatives in recent times, quite a feat given their likely age.
