The ancient hummocky wall that is Suilven. Twin summits of Suilven, looking north before a climb to the col and an ascent of both summits, Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland.
Commentary. We had enjoyed the walk along the gorge of the River Kirkaig and the view of the Kirkaig Falls. Continuing east we took a track running parallel to Suilven’s summit ridge. Climbing to the col, half-way along its humpback image, we turned west to reach the Cairn on Caisteal Liath, the rounded, precipitous peak. Then we turned east and traversed the full one-and-a-half-mile ridge, to the eastern pyramidal peak, of Meall Meadhonach. The views of the “Knock and Lochan*” landscape, north and south were simply stunning. Views to the Atlantic Coast of Sutherland were equally enthralling. Suilven is an amazing mountain. Its form and character changes from every point of the compass. From the east it is a sharp, dramatic dog-tooth. From north and south it is a Humpback Whale, surfacing. From the west it is a classic Sugar-Loaf dome, near vertical in places. Rising as it does from a low, hummocky, loch-strewn base its height seems magnified. There are many mountains physically higher but the drama and charisma of this ancient monolith is quite incredible. *a landscape of low, rocky hills, interspersed with hundreds of small lochans and pools.

My 3rd attempt at climbing this iconic hill and it didn't disappoint. The route this time was from Glencanisp Lodge.
