Loch Beannacharain
At the head of Strathconon Loch Beannacharain, also known as Loch Scardoy is full of brown trout. Strathconon is the longest Strath in Scotland stretching for 20 miles. The scenery changes from open country at the beginning of the Glen to narrow mountainous landscape at the end. It is a stunning and relatively undiscovered place of natural beauty.

Reflections and Light.
We drove along Strathconan as far as public access is allowed and besides some fleeting mist and hill fog the conditions were pretty dire; totally obscured sky and rippled water. I was thinking we may be home for breakfast!! Iain knew of a waterfall a short walk beyond Scardroy Lodge but even as we approached we could tell there was insufficient water flowing to justify going further. However, the weather gods turned kind and as we headed back the sky began to clear and the breeze dropped. Eventually I was able to capture this image looking towards the western end of Loch Beannachrain, with a small tree nestled at the foot of the hills which were also forming a decent frame for what I believe to be Creag Sgiathan at centre.

Reflecting on Aliens
Loch Beannachrain became ever more still and we started to play with the reflections from the far tree-lined bank. I particularly liked this one as it looked like I'd captured something 'other-worldly'.

Loch Beannacharain, Strathconnon, July 2022
I had made it to the end of the public road to Strathconnon. It was time for a break and enjoy the peace and quiet of a location such as this. I came prepared with sandwiches, my flask and some biscuits it was special to be here.

Burn
One of my favourite pastimes is just sitting beside this little burn, that tumbles down the steep valley side into a large loch. There are numerous pools and falls along it's length, and some lovely ancient trees clinging on to the harsh-wintered rocky slopes.
