S8178 - Beinn A Chairein
NH296318, LR25. HISTORY HISTORY Pillar completed 5th November 1954 costing £59.12s.6d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NH54/2 within the Inverness secondary block during 1955, and levelled to second class precision in 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in May 1980. SITE VISIT Approached from the northeast. Parked in the entrance to an estate track at NH310330. The track only runs for ~150m then it is a random steep route up through trees and onto open hill following a near direct route to the top circumnavigating some steep slopes. The pillar is in fair condition, the top surface is partly weathered away. The spider centre retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces SSE, compass measurement 161°. Vented through the northeast sight hole. Full 360° panoramic view from this top.
