OS Map of Beinn Bhuidhe

S7483 - Lochan Uaine
NH623217, LR26 & LR35. HISTORY Pillar completed 14th September 1953 costing £52.16s.3d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NS54/18 within the Inverness secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1976. SITE VISIT Overall approach from NNE. Parked on the bridge over the River Nairn at NH626255. Entered the mapped track on the east side of the river. An estate notice advises on phoning 01808521216 or 07753826453 to check with Manager for access to hill re deer shooting etc - this was tried but there was no mobile signal in the area. Continued southwards on the mapped tracks to NH632233, followed the fence ~1km SSW to the corner post then took a straight line across the peat bogs to the summit. Beinn Bhuidhe is an open grazing moorland top. The pillar trunk is cracked through at flush bracket height, probably caused by severe weather. The spider centre plugged with tar. The flush bracket faces northeast, compass measurement 44°. Vented through back (SW) sight hole. All views were lost to low cloud on the date of visit. Photographed: 1st August 2011, GRP. ═════════════════════════ Map: www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/26301520638/in/album-72157692190778971/ Trig Pillars on OS Landranger 26 Map: www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/37911254512 Trig Pillars on OS Landranger 35 ═════════════════════════ Neighbouring Triangulation Pillars www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100943633/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7516 - Stac Gorm : 3.50 miles to the north. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8210106340/in/album-72157631348956488/ S1621 - Beinn Bhreac Mhor : 3.61 miles to the east. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8210108194/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7490 - Tom Bailgeann : 5.27 miles to the northwest. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8207520804/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7295 - Carn Glac An Eich : 5.46 miles to the northeast.
