S8742 - Carn Leac Saighdeir
NJ270060, LR37. HISTORY Pillar completed 24th April 1956 costing £32.13s.10d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NJ40/7 within the Ballater secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1956. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary block NO46 (Forfar) during 1956. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1978. SITE VISIT Parked in a small recess by the A939 at NJ296063. Followed the mapped estate track network to all the way to the summit. The trig pillar is in excellent condition. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented letters. The flush bracket faces WNW, compass measurement 283°. Vented through the right (SW) sight hole with the back (SE) sight hole breaking open. Full 360° panoramic view from the top.
