G1083 - Blairfettie
NN 7515 6418, LR42. Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52). Flush bracket G1083 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 734.9030 feet [223.9984 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Dalwhinnie to Tummel Bridge levelling line. Geodetic line G.218, levelled during 1945. The surveyor's description was W face of building, 10' N from SW angle. Third Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1956-68). This flush bracket was used again during the third geodetic levelling, Scotland. It was included on the Tummel Bridge to Dalwhinnie levelling line. Geodetic line G.353, levelled during 1958. The surveyor's description was W face, 8' fron NW angle of cottage, N side of road. This marker was last verified in 1958. The OS Online Archive gives the description as cottage, N side of road, W face, 2.4m from NW angle. SITE VISIT Cottage gone. GPS led me to traces of two walls. Farmer explained that the cottage was destroyed by fire on a Saturday night in the late 1950s. The remains were immediately razed having been declared dangerous. G1084 - Doocot Cottage
NN 7402 6450, LR42. Second Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1936-52). Flush bracket G1084 was used during the second geodetic levelling of Scotland, and was levelled with a height of 745.6230 feet [227.2659 metres] above mean sea level (Newlyn datum). It was included on the Dalwhinnie to Tummel Bridge levelling line. Geodetic line G.218, levelled during 1945. The surveyor's description was E face of farm building, 50' N from SW angle. Third Geodetic Levelling, Scotland (1956-68). This flush bracket was used again during the third geodetic levelling of Scotland. It was included on the Tummel Bridge to Dalwhinnie levelling line. Geodetic line G.353, levelled during 1958. The surveyor's description was farm building, N side road, E face 15.2m from SE angle. This marker was last verified in 1958. The OS Online Archive gives the description as farm building, N side of road, E face, 15.2m from SE angle. SITE VISIT Outbuilding ~75m up left side of farm drive. FB to right of courtyard archway. Sniffed it out using GPS. Bracket in good condition.
