The "Mare's Tail" braided Steall Falls near the head of Glen Nevis. Here the Allt Coire a' Mhail falls nigh on 400 feet, an amazing sight, Lochaber, Inverness-shire, London.
Poem. After a three mile trek to the head of this four thousand foot valley, ice-scoured over tens of thousands of years, a hanging valley sheds its stream in a glorious “mare’s-tail” drop, down a sheer rock face. Mosses, lichens and silver birch thrive in the misty spray of the torrent around the plunge-pool. Diving, splicing, tumbling, plunging, bouncing burn. A white-water delight as it cascades into the mighty and ancient valley. What a reward for the effort of precariously edging along the verdant six hundred foot gorge. All senses are triggered by this magnificent, towering spectacle, a stunning, shimmering marvel. The essence of life framed by a lush, living, saturated rock wall. Awe, wonder, pleasure, solace, Nirvana!

- Data: Database of British and Irish Hills v18.2
- Maps: We use OS mapping for England, Scotland, Wales, and the Isle of Man. Sadly, Channel Islands, Northern (OSNI) and Southern Ireland (OSI) mapping isn't available online, so we use Openstreetmap.
