A chance encounter : Dales Bus 74 : Otley, West Yorkshire : 24 November 2024
We get one bus a week from Otley to York; the return, 1805 Saturdays only, Dales Bus 74 that is operated by the smart Reliance Motor Services of York and that runs one trip from that city leaving their garage at 0817, across North Yorkshire, up Wharfedale to Grassington. There are a couple of local trips to keep it, and the driver, occupied. Service 74 is supported as part of the marvellous Dalesbus network that aims to give public transport access to some of the remotest parts of Northern England including the National Park and AONB. Given the weather - Storm Bert was sweeping across the country - I'm rather surprised that this ran up into the Dales but it did; I suspect it was a quiet day! The bus runs every Saturday throughout the year and on a Summer's evening I've been tempted to catch this to York and then return home via train and bus. Anyhow, a very hurried photograph as I toddled along the darkened streets in the rain.
