S5500 - Yockenthwaite Moor

SD909810, LR98. HISTORY Pillar completed 3rd August 1949 costing £95.12s.3d. Computed as secondary triangulation station SD96/22 within the Skipton block, and levelled to second class precision during 1951. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1976. SITE VISIT Approached from south. Parking off SW side of road at SD902790, ~200m west of Yockenthwaite. Up via bridge and steep farm track to SD911794. Continuing on a beeline northwards to the top, the gradient lessens and the route is straight forward apart from some peat haggs to negotiate near the top. Pillar disintegrating, with top broken into several loose parts. Spider centre plugged with tar. Flush bracket faces northeast, ~43°. Vented through NE & SE sight holes. Full 360° panoramic view.
