The final location for a day exploring the Yorkshire Dales with /photos/13922644@N05/" rel="noreferrer nofollow Terry Roberts , /photos/johnbleakleyphoto/" rel="noreferrer nofollow John Bleakley , /photos/hogantonge/" rel="noreferrer nofollow Mike Tonge was the lone hawthorn tree at Winskill Stones. Most of the day had been heavily overcast with a few breaks in the clouds to allow the sunlight through. That was the case here also, a narrow band that appeared to be a break in the clouds . . . we just needed to wait hoping the sun would pass through it and provide the golden light we hoped for. We were rewarded. The bright sun was a challenge as I did a 5 shot bracket in order not to blow out the sun or lose detail in the shadows. The image does not capture the conditions we encountered. It was not warm and tranquil, but rather bitterly cold with strong chilling winds from our left. When the sun dipped behind the clouds, the golden light vanished and we hastily packed up the gear, headed to the cars and we were off to a pub!! A great day in the Dales with friends.
