Waiting For A Train
Waiting For A Train

I'm sure that this bridge gets more use as a vantage point for passing trains than for people out for a walk. On the other side of the bridge a path runs parallel to the Dales Way (where I was) and various other paths lead off it.

Having seen steam - the WCML is in the dip just below me - I picked up the Dales Way National Trail to head towards the River Lune. The view is looking back to Grayrigg, which I'd passed through, and the fells around Bannisdale a quiet outlying valley in the Lake District.

Grayrigg, Westmorland, England
Grayrigg, Westmorland, England

The church is grade II listed historic constructed in 1837 with the tower from 1869. "Grayrigg is a small village and civil parish in the South Lakeland district of Cumbria, England. It lies on undulated and partly mountainous land, 4.9 miles (8 km) north east of Kendal, on the north side of the West Coast Main Line, and west side of the M6 motorway. Historically a part of Westmorland, Grayrigg and its surrounding area have provided evidence of an ancient Roman camp. During the Middle Ages Grayrigg formed a chapelry and township centred on the chapel dedicated to St John the Evangelist, which is still in use." - info from Wikipedia.
