Matterdale Church.
This dated beam inside the church has caused a little confusion. The carpenter has used capital X to denote hundreds so it may read 1573 or 1753, when alterations were made to the building. In all likelihood the beam is original and is sixteenth century.

Bridge over Aira Beck Dockray.
A little further down stream the beck descends in spectacular fashion over Aira Force on its way to Ullswater.
