Brothers Water has been described both as the smallest lake in the Lake District or the largest tarn. Take your pick! It is said that it takes its name from an incident in the 18th century when two brothers were drowned in its waters.

The watchers
The watchers

Though I'm not sure what they were watching for since it was the middle of the day, nowhere near the time the farmer would come with their feed! hff!

Threshwaite Glen
Threshwaite Glen

A short walk from Hartsop gives access to the lovely Threshwaite Glen. It lies nestled between Gray Crag on the left and Hartsop Dodd on the right (with the rocky outcrop of Raven Crag prominent). The glen itself leads into Threshwaite Cove and then up to Threshwaite Mouth behind the low-lying cloud. From here you can return to Hartsop via Gray Crag or Caudale Moor/ Hartsop Dodd (or Caudale Moor and the Kirkstone Pass if you don't mind a short stretch on the road).
