Aside from its natural beauty, Slemish's value as a heritage site is entirely bound up with its association with Saint Patrick. In local tradition, the mountain was the site of the saint's slavery, where he spent 6 years herding livestock for Mulchi, the local chieftain. Slemish rises to a height of 437 metres asl, with considerable prominence over the surrounding terrain.

Slemish Mountain, Co Antrim
Slemish is 1,434ft high, and lies east of the town of Ballymena. It is the remains of a volcanic plug of an extinct volcano. According to legend, St Patrick worked on Slemish as a shepherd when he first came to Ireland. This shot was taken from the B94 Collin Road, at the eastern side of Big Collin.
