S7659 - Larriston Fells
NY569920, LR80. HISTORY Pillar completed 21st March 1954 costing £49.13s.4d. Computed as secondary triangulation station NT72/20 within the Jedburgh secondary block during 1957, and levelled to second class precision in 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in October 1979. SITE VISIT Approached from the east after bagging March Head. A scarce footpath follows the national boundary westwards from NY586919 to NY576921. Thereafter the mapped path to the trig column is non-existent and it is a tough yomp over thigh deep tussocks to get there. Open heather clad moorland top. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains its original OS centre cap with deep indented lettering. The flush bracket faces northwest, compass measurement 316°. Vented through the left (NE) sight hole. Open panoramic views to the surrounding moorland hills. Photographed: 15th Sept' 2007, GRP. ═════════════════════════ Interactive index: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1arx2Qmo5mVeVUJA2lzVG_uzbYPW59ffh&ll=55.221196,-2.678999&z=12" rel="noreferrer nofollow Google My Maps Map: www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/30098954708/in/album-72157692190778971/ Trig Pillars on OS Landranger 80 ═════════════════════════ Neighbouring Triangulation Pillars www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100926114/in/set-72157631801120468/ S7292 - Foulmire Heights : 2.13 miles to the northeast. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8109885631/in/set-72157631821839859/ S8000 - March Head : 2.28 miles to the east. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100913799/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7291 - Arnton Fell : 3.36 miles to the northwest. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100970551/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7998 - Glendhu Hill : 3.55 miles to the south. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100954614/in/set-72157631801120468/ S7506 - Saughtree Fell : 4.33 miles to the north. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100970801/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7995 - Priest Hill : 4.71 miles to the southwest. ═════════════════════════
