From E, Basset's Cove car park, delicate surfers path down, microspikes recommended, then easily across tidal rocks, easy scramble mostly steep grass (but 3m of sloping arete on E ridge needs care on descent, not technical but briefly exposed), microspikes all the way. 2 hrs before low spring tide, evidently doesn't need a very low tide. B A S S E T - C O V E
B A S S E T - C O V E ð Basset Cove ð I was on the fence as to whether to post this shot. I could have had better light, I could of stopped by earlier in the year before the sea pinks (thrift) had died back... But as this was my first time here, I decided to share a photo. There was a little colour in the sky which prompted me to take this shot. Although I felt it required heavy colour grading to bring out the rust colours in the rock an make the image stand out. Colour grading is something I'm wrestling with at the moment... Should I push on with this popular style of today, or should I process my photos more classically? My aim is often to be somewhere in between. Fixer-Upper!
Derelict House near Basset Cove, Cornwall When you go to Cornwall on a photography trip this is not the sort of scene that your mind conjures up! I spotted this old house driving down the B3301 and managed to find a place to park and walk back to it. The hedgerow meant I had to give up on my tripod so was really thankful for both the IS on the R5 and the flippy screen Canon puts on their cameras. The left hand image I managed to get shooting through a gap in the hedge. There was something about this old house that appealed to me. The sky was too blue to suit it...really wants a brooding dark grey sky so went for a rare B&W. I was tempted to do a sky swap but resisted! © All rights reserved Steve Pellatt.
