Found in good condition but covered in moss below the tree with my dad who aged 82 was bagging his first FBM.

S1816 - Cairn Pat
NX044563, LR82. HISTORY Pillar completed 1st July 1937 costing £9.13s.0d. Computed as primary triangulation station PP360 within Figure 3 of the OSGB36 retriangulation network during 1937. This station was also used for the reconnaissance of secondary blocks NX29 (Girvan) in 1955, and NX56 (Kirkcudbright) during 1958. Levelled to second class precision in 1955. Last maintained by the OS in March 1995. It also has the distinction of being a Laplace station forming one end of a base (survey) line. The other end of this base is at Inshanks Fell to the south. SITE VISIT Pillar in good condition. Spider retains an old metal cap with no lettering. Flush bracket faces ESE, ~117°. Vented through SE & NW sight holes, innards blocked with debris. Long views in all directions but limited to around twenty miles by the hot haze.
