NX461801, LR77. HISTORY Pillar completed 14th August 1955 costing £94.7s.0d. Computed by Distomat survey as tertiary triangulation station NX56/DM/T16 within the Kirkcudbright secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1958. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1985. SITE VISIT Parked in the car park at NX415804. Bagged in conjunction with neighbouring Merrick. Followed the mapped footpath to NX435818 then up over Rigg of the Jarkness and continued SE along the shoulder to the top. Deep wet tussocky undergrowth with hidden deep potholes was the order of the day. The solid granite rock summit was worth all the effort. The pillar is in good condition. The spider retains it original weathered OS cap with large raised narrow lettering. The flush bracket faces east. Vented through the front sight hole (FB face), but the port hole opposite was breaking open, therefore was able to see the pillar bolt. There is an extensive panoramic view from this top. Photographed: 22nd August 2006, GRP. ═════════════════════════ Interactive index: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1arx2Qmo5mVeVUJA2lzVG_uzbYPW59ffh&ll=55.091748,-4.412116&z=12" rel="noreferrer nofollow Google My Maps ═════════════════════════ Neighbouring Triangulation Pillars www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8136841094/in/album-72157631874189130/ un66 - Millfore : 3.08 miles to the south. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8132120287/in/album-72157631874189130/ un46 - Eschoncan : 3.18 miles to the west. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8109907396/in/album-72157631821839859/ S8292 - Meikle Millyea : 3.92 miles to the NE www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/7905744514/in/album-72157631348956488/ S1586 - Merrick : 3.97 miles to the NW www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8100983392/in/album-72157631801120468/ S7972 - Corserine : 4.86 miles to the NE www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8132120143/in/album-72157631874189130/ un49 - Garlick Hill : 4.87 miles to the SW www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8132120697/in/album-72157631874189130/ un39 - Craigmurchie : 5.93 miles to the SW www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8132148942/in/album-72157631874189130/ un15 - Bennan : 6.38 miles to the east. ═════════════════════════
