Uamh Bheag: the rocky crevasse of Uamh Mhor and the boundary of the Highlands and Lowlands
Uamh Mhor ('big cave') is in fact a subsidiary summit of the Graham Uamh Bheag ('little cave') and worth a visit if time allows. The big cave (home to brigands till the eighteenth century) featured in literary works by Walter Scott and Robert Louis Stevenson and this view was more recently painted by the artist Michael Andrews in the 1990s. The vastness of the flat Lowlands moor creates a sharp distinction with the start of the Highlands, Ben Ledi being the prominent peak centre picture.

NN696117, LR57. HISTORY Pillar completed 25th April 1952, cost record not available. Computed as secondary triangulation station NN61/13 within the Callander secondary block, and levelled to second class precision during 1952. This pillar station was last maintained by the Ordnance Survey in June 1980. SITE VISIT This hill is one of these treasures that all the 'Strictly over 3000Ft only' brigade miss out on. I had the whole place to myself on this perfect warm September Saturday. The approach was quite boggy in places, and unlike most of the over 3000's there are no continuous paths in place, thereby making this more challenging than many Munros. A windfarm is being built down the east slope, many of the turbines have sprouted their 3-blade fans. The trig column is located on the Stirlingshire side of the fence, although I did climb over the fence to be in Perthshire for a short time. The pillar is in good condition but surface cracks are starting to appear. As expected, the Allen Key perv has collected his booty leaving the spider centre open. The flush bracket faces south. All four sighting holes are plugged. Full 360° panoramic view. Photographed: 9th September 2006, GRP. ═════════════════════════ Interactive index: www.google.com/maps/d/viewer?mid=1arx2Qmo5mVeVUJA2lzVG_uzbYPW59ffh&ll=56.280291,-4.107628&z=11" rel="noreferrer nofollow Google My Maps ═════════════════════════ Neighbouring Triangulation Pillars www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8098013680/in/album-72157631793900484/ S6221 - Little Hill : 5.73 miles to the northeast. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8097991221/in/album-72157631793900484/ S6181 - Cromlet : 5.78 miles to the east. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8098013193/in/album-72157631793900484/ S6471 - Mor Bheinn : 5.98 miles to the north. www.flickr.com/photos/13460108@N06/8098106480/in/album-72157631793900484/ S6931 - Coire Garbh : 6.09 miles to the northwest. ═════════════════════════
