I arrived at Lochboisdale to be greeted by the news that tomorrow's sailing to Oban had already been cancelled. This is the ferry, the Hebridean Isles , stormbound alongside the pier.

South Uist: There is Skye (1/3)
With the really good weather, you see more islands. Here you see Skye in the distance. On Skye is Uig, the ferry port for the ferry to Lochboisdale. But the ferry is not running as maintenance showed major faults to be fixed, before putting in back on operation. If that would have been in winter, CalMac would have probably being able to put a replacement there. But summer time means high time and all ferries run under full schedule. So really looking out to get the ferry back!

Lochboisdale Hotel South Uist - Outer Hebrides Scotland on 18 August 2022
A strange hotel with quite a few foreign staff which was fairly pleasant but the Hotel was living in a faded grandeur of past generations with unkempt overgrown gardens and everything you would expect of a 1930's hunting hotel. Certainly, most of the furniture and fittings seemed to be from this era with the obligatory stuffed game heads, oversized fish in glass cases and faded pictures from another era adorning the peeling flock wallpaper. It is well worth a visit even given its remoteness before such places fade and change with the modern times. We were given a sea view room which we hadn't expected but the hotel was quiet and peaceful even given the Mallaig ferry terminal which was 50 yards from the front of the hotel. The food was very good - PS there is nowhere else to eat nearby so no choice really. A few village shops survive but a lot were seemingly long closed. The community has tried to keep up but looking at the community garden nearby it is obvious that there is a lack of enthusiasm. Otters inhabit the area and there are warning road signs of 'Otters Crossing' It was a handy stop over arriving in the early evening to catch the morning ferry to Mallaig the next day which departed after a leisurely breakfast.
